Union for Contemporary Art Fellowship
oh, hi, blog. I've been absent for 6 months, but I have an excuse. I've been working on a fellowship at the Union for Contemporary Art in Omaha, NE for which I did a project converting social data into music. The goal of the project was to expand conversations about social issues beyond the traditional modes of communication, based on the belief that the arts can be used as an alternative lens for approaching these topics, reaching new audiences, and expanding the terms of political discourse.
I ended up with 5 soundscapes using data sets for the following topics:
1. Child immigration from Central America (below)
2. Gun violence in Nebraska
3. Access to Justice
4. Gender inequality
5. Residential segregation
